The feeling exercise
Learning how to connect with your Whole Self calls for your good Self to pay full attention to your emotions.
That is, to your awareness (Spirit or Soul), your thoughts (mental activity) and your feelings (every vibration from the tip of your head down to your toes).
Pay attention to your senses. Listen to all sounds near and far, all smells, all feelings of touch on your body (hand positioning, clothing on your skin, hair falling, the wind etc).
It is important to feel your feelings just the way they are - including all the distorted beliefs and fears they hold.
Remember - overwhelming, resistant and prickly emotions are not real, but to understand them means to be fully present to them with no interpretation (no judgement, analysis, anticipation, or distraction).
It can feel very hard to begin with. And it can feel physically gooey, but you are here now, aware as you listen to your Mind and the signals it relays to your Brain and throughout your entire body.
The exercise
Close your eyes. Feel your body and all its vibrating energy. Feel how this energy is moving and the intensity of this moving energy. Breathe in and up - and out and down - nice and slow.
Feel the feeling just as it is, free of any thoughts you have about it. Breathe deep and slow as you let your Self feel the energy and the power in the feeling with your full awareness. Take your time - to loosen the feeling - and create space.
Feel love for the feeling just the way it is. Feel love for the power in the feeling. Breathe in this love - awareness. Take your time. Slowly fill this newly created space with love.
Feel love for your Self feeling the feeling and for feeling the power in the feeling. Let this love - awareness fill your whole being. Breathe with patience and with all the time in the world - let this space be your friend.
Feel the change in energy - your energy power - to express when you feel ready - as your power for change.
The more you practice feeling love for your feelings in all their distortions, the easier you learn to develop a loving and trusting relationship with your Self - through the wisdom and insights you receive from within this newly created space.
Over time you will be able to feel your full range of your emotions and allow any fear, stickiness or fog to clear with ease.
You are learning not only to open your Heart and Mind, but you are learning to enjoy the constant free flowing feeling of love as peace. Even on those tough days. And gratitude will remind you how great it is to feel so good being you.
We live in a culture where we are taught to believe it is dangerous, scary, even selfish to feel and express our feelings.
And in doing so we loose our power in believing we have choices. We lose trust in our Self and end up denying our Self the opportunity to allow our Spirit to shine as an expression of our Self. Remember, it is our Spirit who guides our heart.
When we hang out with our feelings long enough to let them loosen, transform and dissolve we find there is another way. Another choice fuelled by this new power we call self-belief. That is belief in our Spirit which speaks through us - when we listen to and trust our intuition, and insights and hunches that this feels right, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
You can move through the most difficult and debilitating feelings of hopelessness to that of empowerment.
Use the feeling exercise as often as you need, to release those big emotions that capture your heart, and learn to fill that space with love, until over time your whole being resonates love. There may be days when you feel resentment from feeling judged, or sad from remembering how you felt misunderstood and perhaps mistreated. Or annoyed it did not turn out how you wanted it to.
Do the exercise and turn these feelings of powerlessness into your power - and choice - to feel good and to do what you thought impossible. You always have time to feel it right. This is what nurturing love for your Self feels like. 💚
When you are ready, go do something nice for your Self. Something that makes you feel happy to finish shaking it all out.
And most of all be proud of your effort. It’s your life to choose and express just as you please from the inside out.
